ENGLEWOOD -- State officials have counted 488 citrus trees that must be removed from an area of northwest Englewood where they've discovered citrus canker disease.

The removal is an effort by the state's Division of Plant Industry and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to stop the spread of the disease, which is considered a major threat to Florida's citrus industry.
