People who grow many kinds of hostas made an interesting discovery: Snails and slugs like some hostas a lot better than others.

The slimy mollusks, it seems, prefer hostas with thin, tender leaves but ignore those with thick, tough or puckered foliage. While you can't expect hosta selection to provide foolproof protection if there's a heavy infestation of pests, there's no question that choosing slug-resistant varieties offers a good start toward damage control.
