Rising Star of Promise: The Wartime Diary and Letters of David Jackson Logan, 17th South Carolina Volunteers, 1861-1864

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Logan left his home in South Carolina in late 1861 and served for almost three years in nearly every theater of the war. He supplied newspaper articles to his small hometown newspapers, wrote dozens of detailed letters to his wife, and kept a diary as well. In addition to a substantial amount of battle detail, this volume contains Logan's eloquent accounts of camp life, picket duty, and insightful interplay between the husband at the front and his wife and children at home. Logan was killed at Petersburg in June 1864.
