The Book of Genesis, Volume 1: Bereshith, Noach, Lech Lecha, Vayera: A New English Translation of the Text, Rashi, and a Commentary Digest (Judaica Press Books of the Bible Series)

FROM THE PUBLISHER

This second volume of the new series from Judaica Press, Books of the Bible, continues the style and format of our popular series, Books of the Prophets and Hagiographa - Holy Writings, which has become a classic text for scholar and layman alike. The Hebrew text has been faithfully translated into concise, but modern, idiomatic language. Rabbi Rosenberg's precise translation, in which accuracy is the byword, is based principally on Rashi's commentary, which is the primary focus of the text. The Commentary Digest present Rashi's commentary verbatim in its entirety, as explained by leading supercommentaries such as Mizrachi and Gur Aryeh. It also includes all rabbinic sources from talmudic and midrashic literature. The other featured commentaries include the Rambam, Sforno, Rashbam, and Ibn Ezra, as well as the Ohr Hachayim and the Keli Yekar. Numerous midrashim and other commentaries, which are largely unavailable in other English translations of the Bible, are also cited. This volume also comprises the original Hebrew text and translation of the haftaroth assigned to the first four sidroth. Malbim's commentary is also presented in Hebrew and English.
