Peter Lanyon (St. Ives Artists Series)

FROM THE PUBLISHER

The only native-born Cornishman among the leading figures of the St. Ives School, Peter Lanyon was passionate about the local landscape, particularly the coastline. In early work he portrayed this scenery in constructions and near-abstract paintings. His later work, with its emphasis on gesture and the expression of inner feeling in purely painterly terms, has much in common with Abstract Expressionsim.
