Book Description
God isn't fooled by the games we play, the masks we wear. And as much as we try, we'll never fake our way into his affection. The best part is: We don't need to. The Father already knows and accepts us exactly as we are. He knows how we think and act; he knows our dreams and fears. Brennan and Jim explain how God's total acceptance of us sets us free to be who we really are.

Posers, Fakers, and Wannabes: Unmasking the Real You

ANNOTATION

Provides insight into behaving as a child of God, knowing that He loves each person's true self, not the "poser" who pretends all is well even when life is spinning out of control.

SYNOPSIS

To be God's child, we've got to be real. There's no faking our way into heaven. No hitchhiking or smuggling ourselves in either. We can't fool God.

The good thing is: the Father already knows us exactly as we are. He knows how we think and act. While it might be somewhat embarrassing at times, God's complete knowledge actually gives us freedom to come to terms with everything in our lives: the good, bad, and unspeakable.

Taken from Brennan Manning's best-seller, Abba's Child, this book helps us see how God's grace sets us free—free to be who we really are. No more games, no acts, no masks. Just ourselves, as we really are in Him.

FROM THE CRITICS

VOYA - Karen Jensen

The terms poser, faker, and wannabe permeate teen culture as youth try to figure out who they are and what they believe, attempting to fit into various subgroups of their peers. Manning takes these terms that are clearly understood by teens and applies them to the concept of living an authentic Christian life. Manning's primary premise is that many Christians, himself included, put on a religious mask for outward appearance's sake while failing to adopt a genuine life of faith because they are fearful to the core of one essential thing—rejection. A former novice in the Franciscan Order and noted speaker on spiritual issues, Manning uses examples from his own life and the lives of people who have contacted him in response to his teachings to discuss the concept of faking a Christian life as opposed to embracing Christ. Manning's style is straightforward and will cause serious readers to reflect as he offers hope and acceptance to teen readers struggling with esteem. This book is Christian in nature, and it has a clear, evangelical goal. The primary biblical text used is The Message, and the way scriptures are quoted might confuse teen readers unfamiliar with this version of the Bible. Nevertheless the book is highly recommended for collections trying to meet specific spiritual needs.
