Bliss is a prolific British knitwear designer and author of such popular books as Bright Knits for Kids and Cotton Knits for All Seasons. Here she has assembled a collection of classic designs for newborns to three-year-olds. These range from easy knits for the beginner to heirloom projects like a lace alphabet blanket and a smocklike dress with grazing intarsia sheep above a picot edge hem. Debbie Bliss yarns are featured in all the designs, although the author does include general information on substituting other brands. This is an excellent choice for large knitting collections. Small public libraries that can afford only one baby knitwear pattern book might prefer Melanie Falick and Kristin Nicholas's Knitting for Baby, which combines appealing patterns with a wealth of solid knitting instruction.
