About the Author
Dr. David Rubin has been practicing Sports Psychology for five years. A graduate of the University of Miami, he is a true “performance” specialist. Through sessions both on and off the golf course, Dr. Rubin makes recommendations and structures individual practice sessions and drills, that help players gain insight into the strengths and weaknesses of their games and allows them to make the most of their valuable practice time. During the winter, when not working with golfers, Dr. Rubin can be found working with coaches, scouts, and goaltenders throughout professional hockey.

Introduction This Handbook has been written for all frustrated golfers. Players, who want so much more out of their golf games, yet are stuck in an endless cycle of trying to improve. Their ears are wide open listening for tips on the latest mechanical swing technique (that just so happens to be working for someone else) or purchasing the newest gadget that promises lower scores. Daily, I watch players with no direction or purpose to their practice session or rounds. They beat balls until they are completely overwhelmed by frustration. You can actually see their minds racing with so many different, negative swing thoughts. These thoughts produce long periods of contemplation over the ball, deteriorating swings, and deal a severe blow to a player’s confidence. As a result of this experience, the individual is left with feelings of failure, disappointment and inadequacy. A player’s thoughts and perspective on his/her ability to play the game has a direct and tremendous influence on how he or she performs. Currently, much attention is being given to the mental side of the golf game and the psychology of golf. Players are exploring how their thoughts and attitudes influence even the most beautifully crafted mechanical swing. Understanding how a swing thought can influence a golf shot is just as important as learning any of the fundamentals of swing mechanics. I get a great sense of satisfaction working with golfers of all abilities. Initially, I make it known to all of my clients that they are embarking on an entirely new understanding into the game of golf. They will learn to play intelligently and with more consistency and confidence. In fact, their entire perspective on the way they play will change. My clients get more enjoyment out of the game, lower their scores and consistently produce better shots. My intention for the reader of this book is the same. It is my hope that what you are about to learn will bring out the great golfer within and inspire you to play to your full potential.
