Roy Lichtenstein (born 1923) became famous in the early 1960s for his deadpan recreations of popular imagery, particularly paintings based on war and romance comics. Author Biography: Lawrence Alloway, who coined the term "Pop art,' is a well-known authority on modern art. His books include American Pop Art and Topics in American Art since 1945; he also written extensively for various art journals and was art critic for The Nation and co-editor of Art Criticism.
