From Literary Times
Once again Julie Moffett brings us a fast-paced story of lovers cast in deep conflict. This time the setting is 18th century Scotland, during a time of intense fighting and rebellion against the King of England. Our main characters are cast on opposite sides of the fighting - the hero a crippled soldier sent by the King to bring peace to Gairloch and our heroine the beautiful leader of a rebel clan. Somewhere between the cold bitter winter and the fresh breath of spring, these two aggressors will touch each other's hearts and be changed forever. When Megan Macleod's father is killed in an ambush, she is heartbroken, but she knows what must be done. She must pick up the mantle of the Black Wolf and lead her clansmen against the English oppressors, reclaiming their freedom and prosperity. Fear for her own safety is far from her mind, and her cousin's proposal of marriage must be set aside until a more stable life can be theirs. Rolf St. James arrives at Castle Kilcraig ready to take on the task of settling peace in these rough hills and he is determined to succeed. His one major challenge is conquering the Black Wolf and taking him back to England where he will be executed for his crimes. When he captures the beautiful and beguiling Megan during a raid on the rebel camp, he finds her captivating and intriguing, not realizing he has already accomplished his task. Measuring each other up over the next several months, Rolf and Megan find themselves attracted to each other. Small concessions are made between them, as well as a gradual understanding of each other. Faced by many conflicts both inside and out, our lovers are constantly battered, tormented by elements of the past and present, and when an English landlord takes matters into his own hands, their fragile relationship must face the greatest test of all - the test of trust, honor, and loyalty.I always look forward to Julie's books....They move like wildfire, blending subtle passions and burning desires. Again, a hero you would simply melt over. Rolf St. James is gentle and compassionate...what a hunk! A love story braced against a backdrop of aggression...with conflicts and emotions in turmoil!Karen Ellington -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved
