Kids Draw Dogs, Puppies and Wolves

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature

Here is a delightful, how-to-draw book printed on quality paper with bold cartoon-like illustrations. Author and illustrator, Christopher Hart, is Watson-Guptill's best selling writer for how-to-draw books; some of which have been translated into ten languages. Watson-Guptill is known for publishing many types of art books. Hart gives us a step-by-step process on how to draw dogs simply and logically using kid type language that keeps the budding artist interested and secure. He covers a broad spectrum of canine poses. An artist can choose to draw purebred dogs, cartoon dogs, puppies and even wolves. Anatomy, poses, postures and line of action are also included. There is an interesting section called "creating expressions" where a student can learn how to draw facial aspects, including worried, happy or embarrassed. An index provides quick references to all of the main contents of the book. The title may state that this book is for kids, but all ages can benefit from using this guide. 2001,Watson-Guptill, $10.95. Ages 8 up. Reviewer: Donna Nelsen
