Freelance publicist Miss Temple Barr, Louie's domestic companion, has signed on to redo the hotel's image and is also writing a big production number for the annual Gridiron roast at the hotel. Her finale trots out old rumors about the mob?all in good fun, she thinks, until she's injured during rehearsals. Meanwhile, ex-priest Matt Devine winds up under the suspicious gaze of Lieutenant Molina when the body of his hated stepfather drops out of the ceiling onto a casino gaming table. Louie learns something of his own about family values, as he manages to keep his identity secret from young, sour-faced Midnight Louise until he and his hostile offspring meet up with a third black cat, the formerly seafaring Three O'Clock Louie. This is the best Louie adventure yet, full of intricate plotting and sharp characterization. And Louie? Nine lives wouldn't be nearly enough for this dude. Book Description
Midnight Louie, the best tomcat in the crime-solving business, and his human partner, petite redheaded publicist Temple Barr, are once again in the thick of things in the city of sin. The manager of the Crystal Phoenix, one of Las Vegas's premier vacation spot, has hired Temple Barr to help clean up the hotel's image, but soon more than the Phoenix's reputation is in danger. The phoenix becomes prey to mysterious saboteurs whose little pranks just happen to keep endangering Temple's life.

When Temple tangles with ex-priests, local police, FBI agents, obnoxious reporters, and a pasell of semi-reformed mafiosi who wear pastel zoot suits, it's up to Midnight Louie to get her out of knot....before it's too late.

Cat in a Crimson Haze (A Midnight Louie Mystery)

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Cat in a Crimson Haze is the fourth title in Carole Nelson Douglas's beloved Midnight Louie series. Readers have fallen in love with this tough, tousle-eared black tomcat. Las Vegas is Louie's playground, and he's the first in line for anything, be it a tasty carp from a casino's fishpond - or a fresh crime scene. Louie condescends to share his life with his companion Temple Barr - a petite, redheaded public relations expert who has a high-heel shoe fetish and a nose for trouble - and when a case comes their way, the sparks (and fur) always fly. And what a case they've landed this time. Temple agrees to do an image makeover for the Crystal Phoenix Casino as part of Las Vegas's quest to turn the old Sin City into America's Family Entertainment Central, and it isn't long before she and Louie are up to their paws in theft, missing treasure, and the mystery of a ghostly murder from Las Vegas's dark past. As usual, it's up to Louie to set things right. And save Temple from an all-too-real killer.
