Book Description

From using the basic features of Mac OS X and its applications, working with multimedia, the Internet, and peripherals to administering mixed networks, this book provides readers with the information they need to become savvy on Mac OS X, version 10.2. Topic selection focuses on the practical rather than the theoretical. The information in the book is designed to be applicable in regular, daily use of the Mac to accomplish specific tasks with the theme of "learn by doing." This updated edition of Special Edition Using Mac OS X reflects the major update version 10.2 represents. Updated coverage includes new and revised interfaces, additional email security features, better Mac-to-Windows networking, Bluetooth-enabled mobile computing, new and revised applications (iPhoto, iDVD, iChat, iCal/iSync, QuickTime 6 in support of the new MPEG-4 format, Inkwell for handwriting recognition), plus so much more.

About the Author
Brad Miser has been living the Macintosh Way ever since he first glimpsed the mighty Macintosh SE ("say, that's a nice machine, but the screen is so small"). In the years since (not to mention the Quadra 660AV, Power Mac 8600, a couple of DV iMac Special Editions, iBook, PowerBooks G3 and G4, and several Power Mac G4s running Mac OS 6, 7, 7.1, 7.5, 8, 8.1, 8.5, 9, 9.1, 9.2, 10.0, 10.1, and now 10.2), Brad has written extensively about all things Macintosh. Brad loves to help people get the most out of their Macs, and has even been known to occasionally provide help where none is desired ;-). He hopes that his books help people make the most of the best personal computer on Earth. By day, Brad is an engineer (who likes to write?—you must be kidding) who develops technical documentation, online help systems, and other "stuff" for Mezzia, Inc. (www.mezzia.com). He has also been a proposal specialist for Rolls-Royce, a development editor for Pearson Education, and a civilian aviation test officer for the U.S. Army. In addition to Special Edition Using Mac OS X, Brad has written many other Mac books, including Mac OS X and the Digital Lifestyle, The iMac Way, The Mac OS 9 Guide, The Complete Idiot's Guide to iMovie 2, The Complete Idiot's Guide to the iBook, The Complete Idiot's Guide to the iMac, and Using Mac OS 8.5. He has also spoken at Macworld Expo as well as various user group meetings. Brad would love to hear about your experiences with this book (the good, the bad, and the ugly). You can write to him at bradmacosx@mac.com.
