FROM THE CRITICS

Kirkus Reviews

The Mammoth Book Of Movie Dectectives And Screen Crimes ( Nov.; 416 pp.; 0-7867-0584-1): Despite this anthology's title, its 25 reprints are divided almost equally into two categories: stories by the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Wallace, Cornell Woolrich, George Harmon Coxe, and Edgar Lustgarten that served as the basis for TV or film adaptations, and non-adapted stories by authors like W.R. Burnett, Eric Ambler, Evan Hunter, Georges Simenon, Mickey Spillane, Frederick Forsyth, and Woody Allen that have been the basis for adaptations.
