From Booklist
Lady Pamela Sinclair met Benjamin Torrance, the duke of Grentham, at a wedding, and the two quickly fell in love, but when Pamela misconstrues a poorly worded offer of marriage from Benjamin and feels insulted, she breaks off their relationship. Unfortunately, it isn't quite so easy to dismiss Benjamin from her thoughts, so when he asks for her help in redecorating his newly restored London townhouse, Pamela can't resist. Now, with the help of Pamela's tart-tongued, matchmaking friend Lady Amanda Detwieler, who offers herself as the perfect oblivious chaperone, Pamela and Benjamin are given another chance at romance. Pride, stubbornness, and misunderstanding all play their parts in the plot of Lake's latest romance, and although some readers might despair of the tangled relationship between Pamela and Benjamin ever sorting itself out, Lake neatly brings them together in a wonderfully romantic conclusion. With its witty, polished writing, this is just the kind of love story Regency addicts adore. John Charles

Lady Pamela (Expressions Series)

FROM THE CRITICS

Library Journal

Something is festering between Lord Torrance and Lady Pamela Sinclair, and Lady Amanda Detweiler is going to find out exactly what it is. After all, it's obvious to everyone around the couple that they love each other, even though both are doing their best to deny it. A rather rustic duke, newly arrived from his Virginia plantation and not wise to the ways of the ton, and a noble beauty with a less-than-pristine past and a mind of her own spar their way through the glittering social whirl and, with a lot of well-intentioned outside meddling, eventually end up at the altar together. Although initially confusing for readers who have not read Lake's previous books involving some of the same characters (The Earl's Wife; The Carriagemaker's Daughter), this traditional Regency boasts well-developed supporting players, including a memorable valet and the interfering Lady Amanda, as well as a dash of realistic soul searching on the part of the protagonists. A light, charming diversion; Lake lives in Washington State. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
