FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Della A. Yannuzzi

This is a guide to the essentials of the net game, warming up, footwork, serves, net shots, keeping score, and much more. Color photographs and illustrations are very good, explaining in detail all aspects of the game. Photos of children in various action poses visually help readers how the game of badminton should be played. For example, one illustration shows a young girl executing a forehand serve in a step-by-step format with accompanying text. Another illustration explains fancy footwork such as side and shuffle steps. Other color photographs show two players called partners playing doubles. All these examples are clear and easy to follow for a beginning player. Badminton in Action is a sports book devoted to explaining and improving the game of badminton. This thirty-two page book is one in a series of how-to sports books. A glossy and index are included. 2003, Crabtree Publishing Company, and Ages 8 up.
