Byron Nelson was the top player in the game for several years during and immediately after World War Il. In 1945, he won 18 tour events, 11 of them in a row. These records were never equalled on tour before and, as the years go by, look nearly impossible to equal in future. He then retired at the age of 34. But, Nelson was much more than just a golfer.
