Book Description
KHAN'S LAST STAND! Jacqueline Bundy The Trekker Newsletter Lightning can indeed strike twice in the same place, as THE EUGENICS WARS: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume Two proves to be every bit as exciting, entertaining, and humorous as the first volume of this saga. The second portion of this engrossing story takes the reader from the beginnings of Khan's consolidation of his power, through the events that lead to his flight from Earth on the DY-100-class sleeper ship S.S. Botany Bay. From beginning to end, this novel is eminently satisfying.... Kilian Melloy wigglefish.com An ingenious blend of actual history and Trek mythology...Volume Two is an audacious, fast-moving conclusion to the Eugenics Wars duology, one-upping the considerable dramatic intensity and inventive accomplishment of the first volume, and bringing the story to a remarkably smooth, coherent conclusion....Cox's electric, fun-loving style of storytelling is the perfect medium to take the reader into the twenty-first century and beyond. Michelle Erica Green Trek Nation Just as much fun as its predecessor, weaving Trek history in and out of recent headlines, mostly through the point of view of one of history's more entertaining secret agents, Teri Garr look-alike Roberta Lincoln....Cox's obvious affection for Trek comes through as strongly as his knowledge.

Star Trek: The Eugenics Wars #2: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh

FROM THE PUBLISHER

"Many unanswered questions remain about the terrible Eugenics Wars that raged on Earth during the 1990s, an apocalyptic conflict that brought civilization to the brink of a new dark age. Centuries later, as Capt. James T. Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise are forced to defend a colony of genetically enhanced humans against Klingon aggression and sabotage, Kirk must probe deeper into the past - and into the glory days of one of the greatest adversaries he has ever faced." "1992. Almost twenty years ago, Gary Seven and Roberta Lincoln, undercover operatives for an unknown alien civilization, failed to prevent the Chrysalis Project from creating an entire generation of supermen and women, genetically engineered to be stronger, smarter, and more resourceful than ordinary human beings. Now, at last, the children of Chrysalis have grown to adulthood, and are rapidly demonstrating that superior abilities spawn superior ambition." "Perhaps the most formidable of this new breed of supermen is the charismatic Khan Noonien Singh. Working behind the scenes of history as head of a vast global conspiracy, Khan's power soon stretches across a quarter of the planet, but that is only the beginning of his grand design. Determined to unite humanity beneath the enlightened rule of a genetic elite, Khan dreams of leading his fellow superhumans to complete and total domination of the world." But several of his gene-engineered brothers and sisters have equally grandiose visions for the future, visions that recognize no one but themselves as supreme ruler. Gary Seven and Roberta watch in horror as the children of Chrysalis wage a covert war against one another, threatening the safety of millions and the future of the entire world!

FROM THE CRITICS

KLIATT

The main tale is framed with an incident in which Captain James Kirk and the Enterprise are sent to evaluate the Federation application of a human colony practicing eugenic biological enhancement. The story of Khan emerges as Kirk reviews the little-known history of the late 20th-century Eugenics War. Cox weaves the action around real and real-sounding events of the late 20th century and brings in many references to later Star Trek adventures. The result is an interesting blend of history and fiction that concludes with Khan being sent off in a secret sleeper ship to his future rendezvous with Captain Kirk, as seen in the second Star Trek movie. (Star Trek: The Eugenics Wars, vol. 2). KLIATT Codes: JSA;Recommended for junior and senior high school students, advanced students, and adults. 2002, Pocket Books, 435p.,
