FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Naomi Butler

The attractive cover features a cricket on the front and a list of the other books in the "Bugs" series on the back. Colorful pictures and manageable text makes the thousand different cricket species interesting. The introduction, "Meet the Cricket" describes the various types of crickets. Other chapters are "The Life Cycle," "Cricket Homes," and "Eating Machine." The book includes a section on finding out additional information as well as a nice section about the author. Another added feature is the title of the chapter repeated next to each page number. What a good way to keep your place and to use for reference. It is the usual fine book by Thomson Gale. 2004, Kidhaven Press/Thomson Gale, Ages 7 to 10.
