From Booklist
Best-seller Ellis' latest is a fast-moving, well-written, and satisfying contemporary romance. Janet has been a housewife for 17 years, dedicated to raising her two children and being a supportive wife to her lying, cheating husband, Tim. When Tim announces that he is leaving, Janet decides to give up her comfortable suburban life and move to New York City with her two teenage children. Supporting herself and the kids as a hack writer for men's magazines, she finds herself caught up in the "singles' scene," and Ellis does a great job portraying the divorcee crowd's desperation, need, and want. Eventually, wary of spending her savings and tired of the nonsense, Janet decides to concentrate on writing a novel and pursuing the handsome bachelor on the fourth floor, even though he may be gay. After many ups and downs, her novel hits the jackpot, earning a million-dollar advance, and the handsome bachelor turns out to be heterosexual and interested. Kathleen Hughes
