Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

The familiar themes of counting, celebrating animals, weather, and events in children's lives appear in this collection of Chinese poems and riddles. The illustrations in soft pastels look like woodcuts that have been hand-painted. They are spare, but quite effective. The book opens like a pad with the English text and art work bordered on the right and on the left by the Chinese text. It is a beautiful book and a great way to show commonality and differences in cultures. Adults who can read Chinese may also find this collection a real delight. 1998 (orig.
