Jingle Bugs: A Merry Pop-up Book with Lights and Music!

FROM THE PUBLISHER

David Carter's best-selling Christmas favorite, Jingle Bugs, is now available in a smaller package! Enjoy this buggy book with everyone's best-loved Christmas traditions from stockings and mistletoe to cookies and gifts. This smaller Jingle Bugs packs in all the fun of the original version, complete with pull tabs, pop-ups, flaps to lift, and a jolly surprise on the last spread. And no child's Christmas is complete without a visit from Santa Bug!

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen

Yet another pop-up book featuring David Carter's whimsical bugs, this Christmas addition packs a surprise at the end. (Warning to parents: the cover of the book refers to it as "a merry pop-up book with lights and music.") First released in 1992, a more compact version is new for this Christmas season. The text is very simple rhyming couplets—the first poses a question, such as "who hangs with the bow and the mistletoe?" and the facing page has an answering phrase revealed when the pop-up is activated ("Jingle bugs swinging to and fro" in this case.) After the inaugural "How Many Bugs in a Box?" the whole bug theme has not made much sense, but it is still fun. The paper engineering is fairly effective in this book—my only concern is that one of the pop-ups is an ornament bug that is completely removable, and thus easily lost. 2004 (orig. 1992), Little Simon/Simon & Schuster, Ages 3 to 6.
