FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature

This revised edition, aimed at parents, demystifies the seemingly increasing problems with speech, language and hearing problems that young children are suffering. The eight chapters are well written for the layman while fully elucidating how problems develop, whether your child needs help, the nature of speech, language and listening problems and what the IEP process is. Real examples of each problem are given, which helps the reader to distinguish between possible problems versus developmental differences among children. Written by a speech and language therapist, it is the perfect book to read if you suspect your child is having difficulty or has been referred by school personnel for testing. Resources for further reading, a glossary and an index are provided. 2000 (orig. 1995), John Wiley & Sons, $15.95. Ages Adult. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger
