From AudioFile
Sometimes science fiction novels that feature aliens are difficult to convert to audio. Pronouncing names and words or projecting an alien attitude often results in an awkward narration. In the capable hands of Mark Sherman, however, this novel works beautifully. THE PROTECTOR is one of Larry Niven's Known Space novels. (His famous RINGWORLD is also one.) These are engaging stories characterized by realistic space travel and human interaction with interesting alien species. The story requires Sherman to pronounce words like "Phssthpok," which he handles by uttering recognizable popping sounds. The result is first-rate.
