Publishers Weekly
Springer writes with depth and subtlety. . .and the topography is as vivid as are lands of dreams and nightmares.

Book Description
The King, the Sorceress, the Trickster . . . they are members of the Circle of Twelve, primal human archetypes whose powers are manifest in us all. Most people never meet the Twelve, except in books and movies-but they exist. Those who have the Sight, like young Bobbi Yandro, can speak with them at will. Bobbi does not will-but her own budding powers are beyond her control. And when she becomes the mistress of Shane, a black mustang with eyes like blue fire, a horse who is more than a horse, events sweep her into the very hands of the Twelve. . .

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Sarah Hammond

The life that Bobbi Yandro knows is turned upside down when her father dies and her mother is placed in a mental institution. But when she is sent away to live with her grandfather, Bobbi discovers that her life has a whole new meaning that she never could have dreamed possible. Not until Bobbi's grandfather, Pap, gives her a book of her father's poetry does she realize that something is different. Soon after, Bobbi decides she wants a horse, and none but the disobedient mustang Shane will do. However, in the end, the reader finds out that Shane is not, in fact, a horse, but a member of the Circle of Twelve, a group of magical non-human, non-animal beings who are only visible to those like Bobbi who have the Sight. Once Bobbi discovers she has this gift, she embarks on a journey of discovering just how much power the Circle of Twelve possesses and how they live in all of us. This book continuously involves the reader, and half the interest lies in guessing what will come next. This book is definitely not one just for the fantasy fans; it will be a treat for all to read. 2002, Firebird Books,
