  Book Title: Ghost Wolf
Book Description
Matt is desperate to fit in at summer camp. One night he gets lost when he goes off on his own to retrieve a forgotten life preserver. A wolf appears and Matt overcomes his fears and follows it. He finds a half-wolf, half-dog pup whose mother is dead. Is the big wolf who guides him the same wolf that his father rescued years before from a trap?

Ghost Wolf

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Laura Ruttig

A simple, intriguing, yet satisfying story makes this early chapter book a pleasure to read. Matt is away at camp for the first time, and he struggles with the many outdoor activities, from swimming to canoeing. On his second night, the mysterious howling of a lone wolf appeals to Matt's sense of loneliness. However, homesickness and isolation are both overcome as Matt makes friends with some of his cabin-mates, and it is not until the last night of his stay that he encounters the wolf making the noise. As the story progresses, the reader learns that Matt's father rescued a wolf from a trap when he was at the camp, and connections abound as Matt is led to rescue the pup of what may be the same wolf. Well-paced and accompanied by a number of lovely charcoal/pencil drawings, this excellent early chapter book provides enough of a story to keep the reader entertained, without being overly long. 2005, Orca Book Publishers, Ages 7 to 9.
