Paul Goat Allen FROM THE PUBLISHER The dramatic culmination of DK's best-selling Inside the Worlds of Star Wars series, The Complete Locations of Star Wars uses breathtaking illustrations and insightful text to reveal the planets from every movie in the Star Wars saga, including the hotly anticipated Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
FROM THE CRITICS Publishers Weekly Fans of the original movies (Episodes IV-VI) and its prequels (Episodes I-III) can enhance their collection with two new oversize volumes illustrated with movie stills and photographs: Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide by Ryder Windham and Star Wars: The Complete Locations by Kristin Lund et al., illus. by Richard Chasemore and Hans Jenssen. The first is a visual timeline of the galaxy's evolution over the course of the six films. Comic graphics and photo spreads illustrate the narrative, which covers the history of the Old Republic and the Great Sith War as well as other major events in the six-episode epic. The second title provides an extensive look at all six films' scenery, including a cutaway view of the Galactic Senate (Episode I), a military mapping of the Battle of Geonosis (Episode II), photos and maps of the Mustafar mines (Episode III), a detailed interior view of the Death Star and Jabba's Palace, and much more. School Library Journal Gr 4 Up-An encyclopedic view of the primary locations of all six Star Wars films. Logically arranged in the chronological progression of the movies, the text treats the material as if it were truly nonfiction, breathlessly recounting the details of the history and geography of planets such as Tatooine, the home of Luke Skywalker, and the Ewok Village from the final film. While the focus is on settings, some events are covered, such as battles and speeder chases. The book depends primarily on illustrations with some photographs from the films. The artwork has a great amount of detail on each location, and cutaways show multiple levels of such places as the Galactic Senate. The book's design shows a good deal of imagination, to the point of including topographic maps like those in National Geographic, with lines and other annotations charting the course of various battles, and makes good use of foldouts. While this title makes for interesting browsing, it imparts more information than casual observers will care to process and is only for rabid Star Wars fans who can't get enough of George Lucas's creation.-Tim Wadham, Maricopa County Library District, Phoenix, AZ Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
