Book Title: Goodnight Max (Max and Ruby)
Book Description
"Goodnight, Max," says Max's sister Ruby. But Max can't get comfortable. First he spills a glass of water. Then there are all those itchy cookie crumbs in his bed...and the moon shining through his window. Will poor Max ever fall asleep? Rosemary Wells' beloved Max and Ruby are back in an irresistibly touchable book that is also a satisfying bedtime story. Toddlers won't be able to resist all the tactile elements--fourteen tempting things to touch, move, even smell--while a gently humorous story makes this the perfect book for bedtime, naptime, or anytime!

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Childrens Literature

Once again, big sister Ruby tries to maneuver Max through a familiar routine, and once again Max has his own ideas about the process. In this "touch and feel" board book, Ruby tries to get Max to go to sleep. After four pajama changes and the opportunity to touch a towel, crumbs, cherry-flavored nightcrawlers, a lace curtain, a fly swatter, and a teddy's tummy (among other items, fourteen in all), Max finally settles down for the night. Max's many detours on the way to bed will remind readers of Bedtime for Frances, but Wells' simple text and the chance to touch lots of items make this board book much more toddler-friendly. As usual, Ruby has much more to say than Max; and as usual, Max has the last word--"Goodnight!" 2000, Viking/Penguin Putnam, Ages 2 to 4, $9.99. Reviewer: Eileen Hanning—Children's Literature
