Three friends spend a pleasant afternoon together pretending they are sailors in this agreeable tale, the third of the Elliot Moose Stories. After dreaming of adventures on the high sea, Elliot enlists the help of his friend Socks to turn his dream into reality. They build a ship out of odds and ends and then sail their ship in the backyard pond, which has imaginatively become home to pirates and rough waters. Shortly, they do become embroiled in a real adventure, as their little ship begins to sink. However, their other dear friend, Amy, saves them just in time and all three are able to celebrate the joy of their friendship. In this book, the author has created a very gentle world in which kindness motivates every action. The importance of both creativity and sensitivity is highlighted and will appeal to young readers.
