FROM THE CRITICS

School Library Journal

Gr 3-8-This useful resource presents more than 100 religious, cultural, and national holidays celebrated around the world. Alphabetically arranged, most of the entries run from one half to a full page while a few (Hanukkah, Lent, and Ramadan) are longer. A captioned full-color photograph helps to place each celebration in a cultural context. A section on calendars around the world and a five-year holiday calendar are appended. The many cross-references help children to see the similarities among holidays and cultures. Children Just Like Me: Celebrations! (DK, 1997) is more visually exciting and could possibly be used by younger students because of the visuals, but is not as comprehensive as this title.-Peg Glisson, Mendon Center Elementary School, Pittsford, NY Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.|
