FROM THE CRITICS Children's Literature - Dr. Judy Rowen
It is early Christmas morning, before anyone else has awakened. Two adorable mice, Scarry's trademark, investigate the presents Santa has left behind. A castle with toy soldiers, a dollhouse and two dolls, and a miniature race car are all the perfect size for the mice. They snoop through the gingerbread house (miraculously not nibbling as they go) and gaze at the cookie ornaments. There are lots of gifts wrapped under the tree, but did Santa forget the mice? Of course not a big block of cheese is waiting for them. The sturdy board book has bright, inviting illustrations and little ones will enjoy finding the mice on each page and identifying the gifts Santa left. 2004 (orig. 1992), Golden Books, Ages 6 mo. to 2.
