Froggy 's mother is going to have a baby. Froggy really wants a little brother who can swim and play soccer with him. Enter Pollywogilina¿¿¿the new baby GIRL! Froggy isn't really jealous of her, but he is impatient that she can't swing and play. Mom tells Froggy that he can take care of her when her legs are all grown in. Of course, that takes an eternity to Froggy. When it finally happens, big brother rises to the occasion; he teaches her to zap flies and rocks her to sleep and changes a diaper¿¿¿well almost! This new story in the "Froggy" series is told with humor. Froggy continues to "flop, flop, flop" in his inimitable way. The adorable illustrations feature a lot of pink in honor of Froggy's new baby sister. Children already acquainted with Froggy will celebrate this new chapter in his life. And readers will think Pollywogilina is a lucky little frog to have a big brother with such an endearing style. 2003, Viking/Penguin Books, Ages 2 to 6. School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2-Froggy is excited about the upcoming arrival of a new sibling, but is disappointed when the baby turns out to be a sister rather than the brother he had hoped for. The story is appealing though a bit too long. While the repetition of sounds and the parents' calls for "Froggy!" will appeal to children, this adventure is not quite on a par with previous visits, such as Froggy Gets Dressed (1992) and Let's Go, Froggy! (1994, both Viking). However, it is sure to please this lovable character's many fans.-Andrea Tarr, Corona Public Library, CA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
