The book is presented as an old-fashioned album and contains a gift card. Photographs, letters and drawings from many private and public collections document the long and fascinating life of a woman whose writings not only told the story of her own family, but which painted a detailed picture of an era in the history of our country as well. Laura Ingalls was born in 1867 and in 1885 married Almanzo Wilder. Although she began writing articles for publication around 1910, it was not until 1932, after her daughter Rose became a successful writer, that Laura's book, Little House in the Big Woods, was published. The family had suffered many hardships, yet they persevered with a courage that today seems remarkable and which struck a chord with readers during the Depression years. Laura's stories became popular and a series of Little House books was planned. The eighth and final book, published when she was 73, chronicled her years of teaching and her marriage to Almanzo.
