Book Title: If You Give a Moose a Muffin
Book Description
If a big hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it. When he's eaten all your muffins, he'll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix. In this hilarious sequel to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, the young host is again run ragged by a surprise guest. Young readers will delight in the comic complications that follow when a little boy entertains a gregarious moose."From the first toss of a muffin to the final scene in which the day's activities culminate in a messy array and the story comes full circle, readers gladly follow a moose and . . . young boy in this lively sequel to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Numeroff presents the energetic sequence of events in stream-of-consciousness fashion . . . just the right springboard for Bond's distinct, pen-and-ink and watercolor drawings. Librarians will have trouble keeping this book on the shelf." SLJ.

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Jan Lieberman

This tale is a rib-tickling circular story like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie but with an ungainly moose who sits crosslegged at a cardtable devouring muffins with blackberry jam. He looks divine in a red sweater and is so talented that he puts on a sock-puppet play complete with scenery. The house is a shambles but anything can happen when a moose is on the loose. 1994 (orig.

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2Every school and public library will want at least one copy of the cassette and book If You Give a Moose a Muffin. Laura Numeroff's book (HarperCollins, 1991) has been a big favorite with children since it was first published. Robby Benson is the narrator, and there are page-turn signals on one side of the tape. A girl sings a bouncy song, "Making Muffins," that is not a recipe but a listing of how to put each ingredient into muffins. Kids will quickly learn the song. Finally, there is a rousing song, "Doin' the Moose!," that will have listeners dancing around the room. Prepare to play this quality tape over and over.Linda R. Skeele, Western Elementary School, Georgetown, KY
